Kukirin G2 Pro review

The Kukirin G2 Pro is the G2 for riders who want a scooter they can actually register, insure and ride legally, without giving up the comfort that made the G2 family popular. It comes in three versions: a Standard model with a removable seat and up to 45 km/h, a DGT (VMP) model certified for Spain and limited to 25 km/h, and an ABE model approved for Germany and limited to 20 km/h. Same frame, very different scooters on the road.

This review explains what each version really gives you, where the G2 Pro is strong, where it is not, and who should buy which one. It is based on Kukirin's specifications, the questions our customers ask us before buying, and their feedback after riding: the G2 Pro is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 45 verified VEPACE buyers.

Verdict in 30 Seconds

Strong points Weak points
Road-legal DGT and ABE versions with certificate DGT and ABE versions have no seat and no turn signals
Comfortable dual-spring suspension, front and rear 9-inch tyres: less soft than the G2's 10-inch off-road tyres
Front and rear disc brakes, ignition lock, plate holder Long charge: 8 to 9 hours with the standard charger
Up to 65 km of claimed range on the certified versions Standard version is heavy for a 600 W scooter (26.7 kg)
Removable seat on the Standard version IP54 only: fine for splashes, not for heavy rain

Buy the DGT version if you ride in Spain, France, Belgium or another 25 km/h country. Buy the ABE version if you ride in Germany. Buy the Standard version if you want the seat and the extra speed for private land, and accept that it is not road-legal as delivered.

All three share the 48 V 15.6 Ah battery, 9-inch tubeless tyres, front and rear disc brakes, dual-spring suspension, IP54 rating, 120 kg maximum load and the same folding frame. Availability of each version can change; the product card above shows what can be ordered in your market today.

G2 Pro Standard: Comfort and Speed for Private Use

The Standard version is the most complete G2 Pro: a 600 W motor, three speed modes (20, 40 and 45 km/h), the removable seat and rear turn signals. The seat changes how the scooter feels on longer rides: you can sit for a relaxed cruise, then remove it for a sportier standing ride.

The catch is legal, not technical. At 45 km/h the Standard version is above the limit for e-scooters everywhere in Europe, so as delivered it is meant for private land. It can be limited to 25 km/h by following Kukirin's tutorial, but a limited Standard version still has no road certificate: in countries that require one (Spain, Germany) only the DGT or ABE version can be registered.

At 26.7 kg it is also heavier than the certified versions, mostly because of the seat assembly and the stronger motor. Fine to fold into a car boot, less fun to carry up stairs every day.

G2 Pro DGT: The Spanish Road-Legal Version

Spain requires every personal light vehicle (VMP) sold for road use to carry a DGT certificate, and riders must now register their scooter. The G2 Pro DGT is built for this: 500 W motor, 25 km/h maximum, the certificate number for registration, and reflectors instead of turn signals to meet the certification.

The lower speed has a nice side effect: the claimed range rises to 65 km, and the scooter drops to 22.3 kg. For a daily commute at city speed, this is the version that makes the most sense in any 25 km/h country, including France, Belgium and Portugal.

G2 Pro ABE: The German Version

In Germany, an e-scooter can only use public roads with a general operating permit (ABE) and a valid insurance plate. The G2 Pro ABE has the 500 W motor and is limited to 20 km/h, the German maximum. Its rear mudguard has a space for the insurance plate.

Like the DGT version, it weighs 22.3 kg, claims up to 65 km and comes without the seat. For German riders it is the simplest way to own a G2 legally: buy, insure, stick the plate on, ride.

On the Road: Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

Suspension. The G2 Pro uses dual springs at the front and rear. On cobbles, kerb ramps and broken asphalt it is clearly more comfortable than rigid commuter scooters in the same price range. It is not a full off-road suspension, and very rough tracks will remind you of that.

Brakes. Disc brakes front and rear, plus an electric brake that cuts the motor when you pull a lever. At 20 or 25 km/h this is plenty; on the Standard version at 45 km/h, use both levers together and keep the pads in good condition.

Tyres. The G2 Pro moved from 8.5-inch pneumatic tyres on earlier versions to 9 x 3.0-inch tubeless (vacuum) tyres. They resist punctures better and grip well on wet roads. Compared with the plain G2's 10-inch off-road tyres they feel a little firmer, which is the main ride difference between the two.

Climbing. Kukirin rates the G2 Pro for slopes up to 19°. Expect to slow down on long steep climbs with the certified 500 W versions, especially with a heavier rider.

Range and Charging in Real Life

The 48 V 15.6 Ah battery (about 750 Wh) is rated for up to 58 km on the Standard version and 65 km on the DGT and ABE versions. Those figures are measured in ideal conditions. In everyday riding, plan on roughly 60 to 75% of the claimed range, less in winter, with a heavy rider or on hilly routes. For most commuters that still means several days of riding between charges.

The included 2 A charger needs 8 to 9 hours from empty. Charge overnight, at room temperature, and avoid leaving the battery completely empty for long periods. See our guides to real vs advertised range and charging time.

Everyday Details That Matter

  • Ignition lock and separate power button: the scooter only starts with the key, which prevents accidental starts and casual use by others.
  • Lights: one headlight, two side lights and three rear lights with a flashing brake light. Visible from every side at night.
  • Display: high-brightness colour screen showing speed, gear, battery, trip distance and system status, readable in sunlight.
  • Folding: folds in seconds; folded size 1187 x 620 x 560 mm, so it fits in most car boots.
  • Deck: the redesigned deck surface grips better in the wet.
  • Water: IP54 protects against splashes from all directions, not against heavy rain or puddles that reach the deck.

G2 Pro or Plain G2?

The plain Kukirin G2 has the stronger motor (800 W) and bigger 10-inch off-road tyres, and its standard version also reaches 45 km/h. The G2 Pro adds the removable seat (Standard version), the ignition lock, the plate holder and, above all, the German ABE version, which the G2 does not offer. Both exist in a Spanish DGT version.

In short: if you want the most power for the money, the G2. If you want a seat, or you ride in Germany, the G2 Pro. The full side-by-side comparison is in Kukirin G2 vs Kukirin G2 Pro.
